HP Adaptive Puck Handling Goalie Training Hockey Class

Class Information

Adapt Goaltending's HP Adaptive Puck Handling camp takes place over the course of the summer at Canlan York in Toronto, Ontario. As the game of hockey continues to evolve, it's not enough for goaltenders to just stop the puck. Teams are continuing to look for goaltenders that possess the ability to be that third defense and help initiate breakouts along with being able to maintain possession in the D-zone. Goaltenders are asked to vacate their crease often to draw in forecheckers and ease pressure on their outlets.

Through the course of this summer period, goaltenders will first begin the process to learn the technical skills to effectively move with and without the puck. As the weeks move along, the tempo of the classes will pick up as we move into phases of application and execution by creating more game-like settings. What will be taught?

Goaltenders attending this puck handling program can expect to learn and develop many important skills that will allow them to set themselves apart and become an asset as that third defense every coach is looking for now. The class is broken up into modules to first introduce each skill an over its duration, develop them to become habits.

Goaltenders will learn the following:

Controlling Rims
Pulling the puck off the dasher directly behind the net
Passing hard, flat and direct
Sweep passes to continue to move the puck when pressured
Transitioning from forehand to backhand
Controlling Direct and Off-Net Dump-in's
Using the dasher to make indirect passes
Chipping off the wall and over sticks
Checking & opening up your shoulders to see the ice
Shovel passes and using your glove to quickly move the puck to your defense
Passing up ice from your knees
Getting your feet up ice & Improving your edgework to vacate your crease
Developing deception skills
Passing to your skaters while they are in motion
Handling the puck in pressured and non-pressured situations
